I was born in Midland and raised in Homer Township with my parents, Hugh & Jackie (McGraw) Albee and my three younger siblings, Phil, LuAnn and Beth. My Dad was a Homer Twp. volunteer firefighter for many years and one of my earliest memories was of him answering a fire alarm. I remember asking why he would leave in the middle of the night after working a long day at Dow Chemical to fight a fire. He said he had made a commitment and that his fellow firefighters and the people of Homer Twp. were depending on him. This was my first lesson about the importance of public service. My husband Ron and I chose to raise our three children just a half mile from my parents because we wanted them to be a part of their lives. I graduated from Dow High School and now our children, Matt, Clay and Lara call it their Alma Mater too.
Clay and Lara are working hard on their degrees and just a few weeks ago, we attended our oldest son Matt’s college graduation. We aren’t sure if that accomplishment or that he and his wife Krystal will give us our first grandchild in October make us more excited!
My Mom passed away just two days after I took office as Register of Deeds, but she and my Dad encouraged me to apply for the job and she was so pleased to know of my appointment. We miss her every day; but are convinced she is still cheering me on!
Five years ago I chaired the Organization United to Rethink the Jail (OUR Jail) when I felt a better process was required to site a much needed new jail in our community. Whether or not you believe the best site has now been found, I think most of us can agree it is good the jail is being built where it will enjoy municipal water and sewer.
My experience as Homer Township Supervisor has been invaluable to me. I am never happier than when I feel I am making a difference and am able to help someone with a question or a problem. Serving in this way has taught me things I use every day on the job as Register of Deeds.
I love this community, I loved growing up here and I want to help make Midland County a place where all our children would want to raise their children. Hard working, experienced public servants help create a strong, stable community. I believe I am the one who brings these qualities to the Register of Deeds office.
